What is recovery?

According to NAMI.ORG, "Recovery is a process, beginning with diagnosis and eventually moving into successful management of your illness. Successful recovery involves learning about your illness and the treatments available, empowering yourself through the support of peers and family members, and finally moving to a point where you take action to manage your own illness by helping others."

Regional Recovery Implementation Workgroup (RRIW)

The Regional Recovery Implementation Workgroup meets quarterly and conducts monthly conference calls to discuss key issues that affect the quality of service for individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues in the Sun Coast region.

This forum allows for key feedback from the various local recovery advocacy groups on how they address various mental health and substance abuse issues in their communities.

The Department of Children and Families, stakeholders and provider representatives are also on hand to offer support and linkages to various services within the community.

The information gathered at the regional meeting is then filtered back to our local Manatee County Voice of Recovery group. Those individuals, who participate in Manatee County Voice of Recovery, discuss and evaluate the topics relevent to advocacy for mental health and substance abuse issues. The local and regional groups work together to meet the needs of the individuals being served.
